MBC 2008, Conner_Bw Judgements. http://www.trotch.com/mbc/ 1. Vocal throws me off, a bit too Marilyn Manson? (Did I ever tell you story where me and JD bought tickets off a guy in the parking lot for $5 to go see Marilyn Manson because the seller was desperate? We spent the whole show loudly heckling Marilyn Manson (show us your tits!!!) only to realize at the end that we were sitting beside the guy who sold us the tickets.) With that out of the way, I have to say I really like this track. Just a pile of intense noise. A 90's Alec Empire meets Merzbow vibe. Appeals to the skid in me. Top 3! 2. I'm a computer. I wanna play video games. How can I say no to Fesner films / GIJOE samples with crazy jungle cuts and basslines a plenty? One of the best. Top 3! 3. When that weird smurfed up vocals (kids voice?) comes in, this track pays off and it got the hairs on my neck to stand up, a bit. The intro is very bizarre. I read that you generated the bassline, randomly, using the Renoise Phrase Generator, or something? Points from me if that's true. Points even if it isn't because I at this point I pretty much think it's true. Maybe a bit too many crashing snares which reminds me of me back in the day when I used to have the opinion "more snares". Top 3! 4. Pretty bad ass tune. Reminds a bit of a producer who went by the name of Keltec. Before that his name was Critical Adjustment. He was on the net in the mid nineties and got props from The Prodigy for his free MP3 tunes. It even said so on his webpage. Yeah, back when pretty much me, Critical Adjustment, and the Prodigy where the only ones on the internet. Note I said a bit, and note it's a fond memory, not in any way an indication of the style of your track which is quite contemporary sounding. A banger among the the experimentalists. Top 3! 5. The future of Montreal right here. I'm not gay. Top 3! 6. This is probably the best crafted tune of the bunch but it doesn't do it for me. It's like a tune you would hear supporting the visuals for some really expensive multi-media presentation at a corporate conference. Still, it's quite a beautiful and emotionally demanding tune. Ah what the hell, top 3! 7. I've listened to every track in the contest at least 30 times each. The first time I heard this one I thought it was a series of mistakes. But every track after 30 listens has it's own magic. Apache and musical amens, general distorted artifacts, weird synthetic basslines, a broken maxtor hardrive sampled in the intro (i read that in IRC), this one grew on me. Top 3! 8. BOTB can do no wrong. However he already won the discography in the Trotch parasite contest where I randomly appended a prize onto BB5, appointed myself the judge, and chose him the winner. So this time around I'm doing everything in my power to make him lose. Had that not happened I would have done everything in my power to make him win. The track is dope. One of the best. Top 3! 9. An emotionally demanding track for which I'm not afraid to shed a tear over. Drums are a little rough but the resulting scrapes, bruises, and beat cuts have endearing qualities to them. Top 3! 10. I listened to the tracks as well as compiled them to CDR in the order I received them. This one, as the 10th track, is well placed. Chilled out bass heavy vibes top off the previous 9 tunes nicely. A good endeavor. The black sheep of the pack. The closest thing to Dubstep in the bunch, thus allowing me to keep Dubstep in the genre description on the contest page. Top 3! 11. As the only judge opening the XRNS files, I am privy to the information that this track is exclusively created out of one sample, the "Funky Drummer" break by James Brown. The fact that you held over 3 minutes together with a single sample and sounded like a breakcore version of Fat Boy Slim in the process? Brilliant. Almost like a bonus track. Top 3!
